2. Info & Domains

Collecting all the information for the website
Getting the right information together for your website is probably the most time consuming and tedious stage of building a website but it’s importance is paramount. The information we’re talking about includes text, photos, logos and other information you would like published on your site (eg. PDF documents, product information etc). We’ve all been to websites that have irrelevant or misleading information only to leave the site a few seconds later. Having useful and consistent information is critical if your website is to appear professional and attract a qualified customer base. Furthermore, writing content that contains strategic keywords will help give your website a high Search Engine Ranking (SER) in search engines such as Google.

To achieve this result takes careful planning and an understanding of the way in which Google ‘spiders’ (searches) through website content. They way in which the website is constructed is also vital to ensure a high SER. All the information to be used on your site can be either collated and supplied by you or if you’re too busy to organise it, we have a range of content services that will guarantee quality content every time including Photography (eg. Interior and exterior location shots, staff profile shots, product shots etc.), Logo Design, and Copywriting. KDG assumes that any content supplied by you will be in a digital format (eg. Email, .doc, .pdf, .jpg, .gif etc.). Please note that content delivered in printed format (eg. Brochures, flyers, catalogues etc.) will need to be scanned and/or re-typed and may incur an additional fee.

Securing your domain names before you start development
Your Domain Name is the internet address that your customers will use to find your website. We’ve heard so many sob-stories of ignorant web developers who have left the Domain Registration process until last, only to find their clients’ desired domain name(s) registered by a competitor or cyber squatter. At KDG, we’d rather learn from other peoples mistakes than having our clients lose out; which is why we would register your domain name(s) early in the production process. We even recommend you get us to register your domain name(s) before Stage 1 – just to be on the safe side.

This stage involves firstly getting KDG to prepare a Domain Availability Report listing available domain names that are related to your business name and lucrative ‘keyword’ domain names. Keyword domain names are domain names that contain keywords and as a result help to improve your search engine ranking on Google and other search engines that look for keywords in domain names. Once you’ve selected which domain names you would like KDG to register, we will register these on your behalf. When your hosting account is setup, we will point your registered domain names to the server and display our default “Website Coming Soon…” notice until your website is officially launched.

For more information on suitable domains that are currently available for your business and to find out why it is so important to protect your online Intellectual Property (IP), complete the Domain Availability Report.

Note:
If your business already has domain names registered, you may wish to transfer these for KDG to manage, saving you money next time your domains are due for renewal. Speak to your KDG Consultant for more information regarding Domain Transfer.
